Jason Howie, the drummer!
My good Friend Jason Howie is a professional musician, he play the drums and he is damn good at it. I had a chance to get him in the studio for some new head shots and press photos. Jason is a funny dude and is full of great stories, most of which are not mother approved.
I have been working hard the last ten weeks to prepare a portfolio for school in order to finish the program. This shot will be apart of it I am sure. Simple lighting and a white background can do wonders and allows the model’s expression to grab the viewer.

Roadside landscape
The other day I was headed to see my best friend Ryan, way out in the country and it just so happened to be a beautiful day. As the sun was setting the sky began create these lovely colors. So I pulled over and start taking pictures, life is good. It is also on film, Veliva baby!

I am currently working on my portfolio for school and sometimes magic just happens, you do not plan it. that is the case for this image. I used my lovely Hasselblad and some FP4 Film, yes film. I can not explain but shooting all manual cameras makes me feel like a boss haha, make the jump if you are ready to laugh.

Velvia anyone?
So I scored 20 rolls of ISO 50 135 Velvia a few weeks ago and shot a few rolls for shits and giggles. I was shooting whatever I saw really, some in daylight others with a ring flash. So I finally got them processed, when you have free film processing you and wait longer then you think and it was worth it.
Has digital made you lazy?
Lately I have been thinking about digital photography, and I have come to a conclusion that digital cameras have made photographers lazy. You may not agree, but hear me out at least. How many times have you said…We can fix it in post or I will just photoshop it, yes photoshop as verb. Back in the film days you would never shoot 3000 images that is roughly 300 rolls of 120 provided you shoot an RB67 and to take it further if you were shooting Velvia it would cost you $1300 dollars, anyway you get it. I think the biggest point I trying to make is that film slows you down, you pre visualize more since you do not a preview on the back. I know someone will say “what about polaroid” (rest in peace) yes, polaroid helped a lot but again it is an instant film. plus digital is soulless, I mean how many plugins or filters do you have that give you digital files an film look? I am gonna suggest the impossible, Do both, shoot film and scan it! But Daniel film is slow, processing is slow, then you have to scan it, your crazy man. Digital is so much better and faster. Well imagine if your look is the film and filters you use on set, paired with your photographic knowledge. When the images come back from the lab you will have your negatives and a CD of your scanned images. How about that for a workflow. By the way I am not talking to guys like gary land or david hill, who’s look is hours of photoshop that is pushing the medium, but they pre visualize more then you think.
